Vision is everything. Status Quo is sub-par.
We want our optics to improve your viewing experience whether you’re
riding a board or a bike or just birdwatching on the boardwalk. Think
of Smith optics as upgrades for your eyes.
TAPERED LENS TECHNOLOGY

Visual distortion occurs when light waves hit an aggressively curved lens
causing them to refract. This refraction causes a prismatic effect, or
distortion.Smith's Tapered Lens Technology (TLT) corrects the distortion
by progressively tapering the lens thickness from the optical center toward
the peripheral view. Light waves now travel directly to your eye to generate
precise vision and reduce potential eye fatigue. Objects
are clearly defined and seen in their exact position.
POLARIZED DEFENSE

Glare happens. Not just on glass and water, but
also on pavement, sand or just about any other flat surface. It overloads
the retinas with too much information, and after a while just flat wears
you out. Polarized lenses filter out the visual noise so that you can
focus on the facts.
We’ve created the world’s lightest, distortion-free
polarized lens so that you have perfect vision and protection. 100% UVA/B/C
protection is built in under the world’s best anti-scratch coating.
Clear vision and maximum durability create the balance of science and
real world requirements.
8 AND 9 BASE LENSES
Smith uses highly-curved 8 and 9 base lenses for most of our sunglass
models. Each frame is specifically designed around these highly-curved
lenses to provide optical precision, good eye coverage from the surrounding
elements, and long-lasting comfort. All Smith lenses incorporate Tapered
Lens Technology™ to correct the prismatic effect inherent in standard
8 and 9 base lenses.
By displacing the optical center of the lens
and tapering the lens thickness, all light, regardless of what angle it
hits the lens at, travels straight to the eye. The result is a lens that
is corrected for prismatic power, prismatic imbalance, and pattern definition.
Be aware, not all companies offer optically correct lenses like TLT™.
TORIC LENSES
A standard lens incorporates a single base curve
(9x9, 8x8, or 6x6), while the Smith Toric lens utilizes a 9-base curve
on the horizontal axis, and 3-base curve on the vertical axis. This unique
design results in a high-wrap, modern lens profile.
